Per mwbqalfabeto consonantico, anche detto mwbgmwbwabjad, si intende un mwcaalfabeto composto da sole mwcqconsonanti, dove le vocali sono dedotte dal lettore; nella tradizione delle mwcglingue semitiche ne sono un esempio l'mwcwalfabeto arabo, l'mwdaalfabeto ebraico, l'mwdqalfabeto fenicio e gli mwdgalfabeti aramaici.

Descrizione

Il nome mwegabjad deriva dalle prime lettere dell'alfabeto arabo storico (e non dalla mwfasua versione attuale, che raggruppa le lettere secondo la loro forma grafica): mwfqʾalif, mwfgbāʾ, mwfwǧīm e mwgadāl, le quali formano l'mwgqacronimo mwggabjad (mwgwin arabo أﺑﺠﺪ‎mwha?). Al pari dell'analogo mwhqmwhgabugida, il termine mwhwabjad è stato introdotto dal linguista statunitense Peter T. Daniels in luogo del tradizionale mwiqalfabeto (nella sua terminologia, riservato ai mwigsistemi di scrittura di tipo mwiwfonemico).
